MSN 612: Experiments and Programming to Harness Collective Wisdom of Crowds

MSN 612: Experiments and Programming to Harness Collective Wisdom of Crowds
Yiannis Laouris, MD, PhD

This course will be based and build on current research performed at CNTI to develop software algorithms that enable massive collaboration with the aim of reaching consensus to complex socio-technical challenges and harnessing the collective wisdom of thousands in order to discover optimal solutions to problems.

Students will learn how to program various versions of the Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) Algorithm and how to produce multiple versions of matrix-based mental maps and then add them to collective maps. The course will include substantial coursework and a major programming project. Students will work in teams of 2 persons to develop experimental interfaces which enable people from all walks of life (using universally designed Apps) to participate in dialogues, contribute and have the systems support them go through data reduction and collective decision making into a stage of developing influence maps and roadmaps for action.

The grade will be based on completing assignments, class participation, and the quality of their final project.
